Short Animated Film 'I LOVE NY'

A street interviewer in New York City unexpectedly stops a rat and asks, “What’s it like being a rat in New York City?”

That single question sparks a fast-paced montage, as the rat’s candid, witty answers guide us through his daily life.

Blending interview-style storytelling with animation, the film uses humor, irony, and sincerity to reflect on what it means to survive and exist in a city like New York. Through the small, sharp eyes of a rat, we see a familiar city from a completely new perspective.

ENVIRONMENT

#3 Restaurant Scene

This scene shows a rat observing two restaurants: one serving pizza, representing Italian cuisine, and the other offering croissants, representing French cuisine. I deliberately placed some trees to the left of the pizza place to add depth and volume to the shadows.

I❤️NY and the Beginning of This Film

After pre-production, I spent about a month in New York City for research. During that time, I saw the original I❤️NY logo at the Museum of Modern Art. That moment stayed with me.

Designed by native New Yorker Milton Glaser in 1976, during a time of crisis in the city, the "I❤️NY" logo was part of a campaign to restore hope and pride.

As I walked through the city, I began to notice the logo everywhere: in daily life, on the streets, and people. It wasn’t just a piece of design. It had become part of the city’s identity.

More than a slogan, I❤️NY  quietly reminds New Yorkers and everyone who visits why they love the city. That quiet, emotional power became one of the key inspirations behind this film.
